Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has signed a contract to build the first line of the offshore section of the Turkish Stream pipeline bypassing Ukraine in the Black Sea, the information department of Gazprom told UNIAN.
”Today in Amsterdam, the company South Stream Transport B.V. signed a contract with Allseas Group S.A. for the construction of the first line of the offshore section of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline with an option for laying the second line,” the report says.
Under the contract, Allseas must lay on the seabed more than 900 km of pipes. To this end, the company plans to use the world`s largest building ship Pioneering Spirit, equipped with six welding and coating systems.
Allseas will start laying the first line in the second half of 2017.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russia and Turkey on October 10 signed the intergovernmental agreement for the implementation of the Turkish Stream project. The agreement involves the construction of two lines of gas pipelines through the Black Sea, each with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters. One line is planned to supply gas directly to the Turkish market, while the other line aims to supply gas to Europe through Turkey. The construction of two lines of the offshore segment of the pipeline is planned to be finished by December 2019.
