The leader of the presidential race of Moldova, Chairman of the Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, on the eve of elections to be held on October 30, has said that Crimea belongs to Russia, Europeiska Pravda reports with reference to RTR Moldova TV Channel.
Dodon made such a statement on air during a joint meeting with the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu.
”The question, on which our viewer, your friend Andrey Bashtannik insisted, is an issue that is crucial for him – to whom does Crimea belong?” the TV presenter asked Dodon.
”Russian Federation,” Dodon said.
”That is, in your understanding…” the presenter went on to ask a clarifying queation.
”You heard me,” Dodon said, interrupting the reporter.
The presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, Marian Lupu, in turn, said that Moldova could not afford recognize the change of borders.
”If Moldova recognizes the change of borders anywhere in the world, it means weakening of its own position, and in fact, it would be handing down a verdict against our country`s statehood. Moldova cannot affort recognition of the change of borders — neither in Crimea, nor anywhere else in the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, polls indicate that Dodon`s victory in the upcoming presidential elections in Moldova is almost secured.
