During the liberation of Ilovaisk, a town located 30 kilometers east of Donetsk, the ATO (anti-terrorist operation) forces have arrested a citizen of Slovakia of Serbian descent, Anton Herashchenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister, has reported on his Facebook account.
Ukrainian police forces arrested the EU citizen during the clearing of the town near a locomotive depot. The man had a Slovakian passport with him. He served as a mortar gunner for terrorists, Herashchenko wrote. The man claimed that he had arrived in Ukraine according to his convictions, not as a mercenary. He also said he knew other Serbians fighting for terrorists. This is the first time the detention of a citizen of an EU country fighting on the side of the terrorists has been confirmed by documents, Herashchenko said.
Herashchenko also added that according to the man’s passport, he arrived in Ukraine on July 3 this year at Zhuliany airport near Kyiv. A Ukrainian court will determine the extent of his guilt.
