Armored vehicles of Ukrainian government forces have fought their way through to the town of Ilovaisk in Donetks region.
Donbas battalion commander Semen Semenchenko, who is in the town along with his soldiers, as well as a separate company of the Dnipro battalion and the second platoon of the Azov battalion, reported this on his Facebook page
“By morning armored vehicles were brought into the town, and now they are with us,” the commander wrote.
He described how security forces attacked terrorists and entered Ilovaisk.
“Facing fierce resistance and sustaining losses, Dnipro and Azov set up their positions in the outskirts of the town. They did their work perfectly. High-powered units of the Donbas battalion, sweeping roadblocks of terrorists, entered the town from several directions, and by 19.00 they took control of the eastern part of the town,” Semenchenko said.
He said that after that many terrorists desperately were escaping from Ilovaisk, whereas security forces stayed there for a night.
He said that last night government forces destroyed three roadblocks and four firing points of terrorists. They also blocked the movement of a column that was supposed to help terrorists.
“By 05.00 about two-thirds of the town was under control, and the town was completely encircled. We ask residents not to leave shelters, and we will try to finish everything more quickly,” Semenchenko wrote.
