Klimkin: Russia not ready to assume obligations to control border

Russia is not ready to assume obligations regarding control over Ukrainian-Russian border and ensure the presence of OSCE observers.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this at a briefing on Tuesday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“I understand that Russia is currently not ready to assume a full level of obligations on ensuring the presence of OSCE observers and effective control over the Ukrainian-Russian border. It is also not ready to acknowledge the facts of permanent border crossing by machinery and mercenaries and constant shelling of Ukraine from Russian territory. These were the main moments of our talks,” Klimkin said.
He also said that members of quadrilateral talks in Berlin had refused to make declarations and promised to focus on negotiations.
“We agreed that we would not work on a declaration or any statements. Rather, we will focus on the essence of the matter immediately in the course of our talks,” Klimkin said.
As reported, the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France held talks on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine in Berlin on August 17.
