The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 49 times in the past 24 hours, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) headquarters.
More than 30 cases of the use of weapons by the enemy against the Ukrainian defenders were recorded from Thursday evening to midnight, the ATO HQ said in an update on Friday morning.
In the Donetsk sector, the militants used 120mm mortars in an attempt to hit several Ukrainian fortified positions near the villages of Pisky and Opytne. They launched 86 mines from the 82mm mortars on ATO forces, as well as 10 large-caliber mines within two hours, starting from 20:00 Kyiv time.
The occupiers also fired small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers near the town of Avdiyivka. The Russian-backed mercenaries fired 82mm and 120mm mortars on the defenders of the Butivka coal mine.
On the Horlivka-Svitlodarsk bridgehead, the enemy opened fire from heavy machine guns, infantry fighting vehicles and 82mm mortars near the villages of Luhanske, Zaitseve and Troyitske.
Donbas militants were also active in the Mariupol sector, where 31 attacks were recorded. In particular, they again used 120mm mortars near the village of Novotroyitske, as well as 82mm mortars near the village of Pavlopil. They also fired small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers several times on the Ukrainian positions near the villages of Berezove and Hnutove, as well as automatic grenade launchers near the villages of Shyrokyne, Slavne and Taramchuk.
In the Luhansk sector, the militants fired small arms and rocket-propelled grenades on the Ukrainian soldiers near the village of Novozvanivka, as well as automatic grenade launchers near the village of Stanytsia Luhanska.
The Ukrainian defenders had to fire back several times.
