Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova says Ukrainian female pilot Nadia Savchenko cannot be released according to the Minsk agreements because she is not subject to the part of the Minsk agreements requiring release of prisoners, but is held as a suspected person, RIA Novosti reported.
Such statement Zakharova made in response to calls of Western countries for Savchenko`s release as provided for by the Minsk agreements, according to a report.
Zakharova has noted that the Minsk agreements focus on the two conflicting parties with external players that should exert pressure on the parties to the conflict.
As UaPosition reported earlier, the Donetsk City Court of Russia`s Rostov region has sentenced Ukrainian pilot, MP and member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Nadia Savchenko to 22 years` imprisonment in a penal colony.
Savchenko, 34, was charged with complicity in the June 2014 deaths of two Russian journalists near Luhansk, Ukraine, as well as with illegally entering Russia.
Russian officials say she directed mortar fire against a checkpoint manned by Russia-backed separatists in Ukraine that resulted in the deaths of the journalists.
Savchenko denies the charges and said she did not recognize the Russian court or its right to try her.
