Ukrainian armed forces receive advanced radar systems from the U.S. capable of stopping rocket and artillery attacks, states Reuters.
“The U.S. is handing over two weapon-locating radars to Ukraine. The systems are designed to detect and track incoming artillery and rocket fire, and determine the point of origin. These military jeeps have the U.S.-made radars – worth about 10 million U.S. dollars each – attached to them. They will help Ukraine’s army prevent attacks by rebel-controlled territories in the east.”
Ukraine has repeatedly asked Western nations to provide Kiev with modern weapons. The United States and NATO say their aid is non-lethal. Two months ago, a fragile ceasefire with pro-Russian separatists was agreed, but violence has again escalated in recent weeks. According to the Ukrainian military, five of their soldiers have been killed in the past 24 hours.
