UN says 1,129 killed during anti-terrorist operation in Ukraine

A total of 1,129 people, including soldiers, civilians and terrorists, have been killed in Ukraine over the period of the anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country.
Such data are contained in a report of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, its chairman, Armen Harutyunyan, said in Kyiv on Monday, Ukrinform reported.
“The Monitoring Mission, together with the World Health Organization, believes that since mid-April, when the confrontation began, to until July 26 over 1,129 people have died in the east, including military, civilians and members of armed groups. More than 3,442 people were injured,” he said.
The report also documents material damage, and the Ukrainian government estimates the cost for the rebuilding and revitalization of the east to be at least UAH 8 billion (about $750 million).
The mission report covers the period from June 8 until July 15, 2014 and is the fourth in a series of reports produced by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.
The mission was deployed in Ukraine by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in mid-March. It includes 39 employees.
