The 403rd day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 02.04.2023.
During day of April 4,Russian military launched 5x missile, 22x air strikes, more than 42x MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian infrastructure in various settlements.
The likelihood of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high, as the Russian army continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, and use terror tactics against civilians. Today, Russian soldiers launched 2x missile strikes and massive MLRS shelling that targeted the central part of the city of Kostyantynivka (Donetsk oblast). These criminal actions of Russian soldiers killed and wounded civilians, damaged a kindergarten, high-rise buildings, and private homes.
The Russian army continues to focus its main efforts on the offensive operations on Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions. The towns of Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka remain at the epicenter of the fighting. Owing to the heroism and professionalism of Ukrainian soldiers, their skillful and coordinated actions, and effective maneuvering, the units of Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled more than 50x Russian attacks during the day of April 2.

- Volyn, Polissya, Sivershchyna, and Slobozhanshchyna directions: no significant changes. During the day of April 2, Russian military shelled the settlements of Volfyne, Basivka, Ryasne, Mezenivka (Sumy oblast), Veterynarne, Hatyshche, Velykyi Burluk, and Kolodyazne (Kharkiv oblast).
- Kupyansk direction: Kamyanka, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Masyutivka, Krokhmalne (Kharkiv oblast), and Novoselivske (Luhansk oblast) came under Russian fire.
- Lyman direction: during the day of April 2, the Russian army attempted to advance in the vicinities of Bilohorivka and Verkhnokamyanske to no success. Nevske Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Torske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka (Donetsk oblast) were shelled with artillery.
- Bakhmut direction: the Russian army has not stopped its assault of Bakhmut. However, Ukrainian troops are courageously holding the city as they repel numerous Russian attacks. During the day of April 2, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in Ivanivske (Donetsk oblast). Russian soldiers shelled Vasyukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, and New York (Donetsk oblast).
- Avdiivka and Marinka directions: the Russian army conducted offensive operations in the vicinities of Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Maryinka. None of them were successful. Russian military shelled the settlements of Avdiivka, Orlivka, Tonenke, Netaylove, Krasnohorivka, and Marinka (Donetsk oblast).
- Shakhtarske direction: during the day of April 2, the Russian army shelled Pobjeda, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, and Velyka Novosilka (Donetsk oblast).
- Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions: with no active operations, the Russian army was improving its defensive lines and positions. In particular, Russian military shelled Novopi (Donetsk oblast), Olhivske, Chervone, Hulyaipole, Bilohirya, Novoandriivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast), Dudchany, Zmiivka, Beryslav, Vesele, Mykolaivka, Burhunka, Antonivka (Kherson oblast), and the city of Kherson.
Russian troops continue to suffer huge losses. In order to replenish them, military units of the Russian Federation’s armed forces stationed in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea are actively subjecting their conscripts to an outreach program. The conscripts are told about the need to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense and take part in combat in Ukraine.
During the day of April 2, the Ukrainian Air Force launched 8x air strikes on the concentrations of Russian personnel and military equipment. In the meantime, missile and artillery units hit 1x concentration of manpower, 1x command post, and 2x other important targets of the Russian army.
