The 24th EU-Ukraine summit was held in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv on February 3, 2023. 15 European Commissioners as part of the European Commission’s collegium headed by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen visited the capital of Ukraine.
“Today’s Ukraine-EU Summit is a powerful symbol that we will overcome any obstacles to strengthen our partnership and integration. Our goal is absolutely clear: to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. We will not lose a single day in our work to bring Ukraine and the EU closer together,” noted the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The main statements made at the EU-Ukraine summit:
- The EU is preparing the tenth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation worth €10 billion by February 24, 2023.
- According to the President of the European Council Charles Michel Russia will not intimidate Europe, and Ukraine will be a member of the EU.
- The EU will provide Ukraine with the first billion euros for reconstruction after the war.
- Ukraine has for the first time documented its intention to join the European Union.
In addition, Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU would supply Ukraine with electricity.
“At first, Ukraine supplied electricity to the European Union, now the situation has changed, and Ukraine needs electricity. Therefore, we will supply the two gigawatts of electricity that you need. We act as a single energy community, and this is what shows the solidarity we want to demonstrate,” explained the President of the European Commission.
