The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal noted on January 7, 2023, that Russia’s aggression created the world’s largest minefield in Ukraine with an area of 250,000 square kilometers.

“This is currently the largest minefield in the world. This not only makes it difficult for people to travel but also causes serious disruptions in agriculture, which is one of our main industries,” explained the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Denys Shmygal clarified that the size of the minefield is 250,000 square kilometers — which exceeds not only the entire Korean Peninsula (about 221,000 square kilometers) but also Laos and Romania (each about 238,000 square kilometers) and Britain (about 244,000 square kilometers).
“Russia is targeting infrastructure in densely populated areas. 70% of the damage was caused to residential areas,” added Denys Shmyhal.
According to the Prime Minister, industrial complexes such as chemical and metallurgical plants, as well as tourist infrastructure, were among the other targets of Russians.
