Anastasia Vesilovska, press secretary of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that as of January 2, 2023, 474 people who were abducted by Russian military in the Kherson region (south of Ukraine) remain in captivity.

According to the press secretary of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, Russian troops have kidnapped 1,100 people in the Kherson region. Among the abducted and missing residents of the region are city leaders, village heads, heads of village councils and their deputies, village elders, 21 deputies of the regional and local councils, 76 law enforcement officers, 4 clergymen and others.
“Currently, the investigation is aware of the release of 638 Ukrainian citizens, Russian soldiers continue to illegally detain 474 people. The law enforcement officers are taking measures to establish the whereabouts of these people, pre-trial investigations are ongoing,” said Anastasia Vesilovska.
