“Today, I have signed into law H.R. 7776, the “James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023” (the “Act”),” noted the White House, quoting Joe Biden.

The document provides for appropriations for the Ministry of Defense, the national security programs of the US Department of Energy, as well as for the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Intelligence Community.

The US Department of Defense noted the new defense budget also provides for the financing of the European Deterrence Initiative and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.

“It [the signed law – ed.] authorizes $800 million in fiscal year 2023, an increase of $500 million above the initial budget request,” clarified the US Department of Defense.

In addition, the document provides for the allocation of $6 billion for the European Deterrence Initiative. This program was launched in 2014 after Russia’s attempt to annex Crimea.
