White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre noted on December 9, 2022, that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new package of assistance in the field of security and defense, which would include, in particular, new fire capabilities for HIMARS missile complexes, artillery systems, as well as for air defense of Ukraine.

“This package will provide Ukraine with new capabilities to boost its air defenses and counter the threats Ukraine is facing from Iranian UAVs which Russia is using to attack Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and kill Ukrainian civilians,” White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre explained.
According to Pentagon, this aid package will include:
- additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
- 80,000 155mm artillery rounds;
- counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems equipment;
- counter air defense capability;
- high Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) Ambulances and medical equipment;
- approximately 150 generators;
- field equipment.
Last month, the USA delivered the first two NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine, with the help of which the Ukrainian partners “extremely effectively” resisted numerous attacks by the Russian Federation using missiles and UAVs.
