National Union of Journalists of Ukraine noted on November 2, 2022, that Russia must be held accountable for war crimes, bloodshed and the deaths of tens of thousands of people, including journalists and other media workers, caused by its invasion of the territory of Ukraine.

Today, November 2, is the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. Thus National Union of Journalists of Ukraine calls on the international community to make every effort to punish Russia for crimes against media workers.
Russian troops have killed at least 43 media workers since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. According to the verified data of the NUJU, among the dead were: eight journalists who were performing their professional duties, 13 media workers are civilian victims, and 22 media representatives who mobilized for the defense of Ukraine in the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
“Thanks to journalists, the world knows the truth about the horrors of war. But a journalist is not a target! We demand the safety and protection of the rights of journalists on the front lines. That is why we need the international Convention on the Safety of Journalists. Journalists are important! They are important because the truth is important, and without journalists and the mass media remains hidden from the people. The right to the journalistic profession must be ensured even in times of war!” Sergiy Tomilenko, the head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine emphasizes.
