“On Friday [October 28, 2022 – ed.], the Commission made available a further €100 million to seven Member States that have been hosting large numbers of refugees. The decision follows the 9 April Global Pledging event “Stand Up for Ukraine”, where the Commission committed up to €400 million to support refugees from Ukraine in the most affected Member States,” noted the European Commission.
As noted, the first tranche in the amount of €248 million was allocated in May for five countries: Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The second tranche of EU funds earmarked for internal affairs is aimed at supporting Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Countries can use these resources to continue providing assistance to refugees from Ukraine. These include, in particular, the provision of food, access to transport and the provision of temporary shelter.
“These funds can also support their capacity to integrate refugees, including the vulnerable ones, such as unaccompanied minors,” informed the European Commission.
According to the EC, the remaining €52 million from the total amount of €400 million of the European Commission’s charitable contribution will soon be allocated to the development of projects supporting Ukrainian refugees, including providing them with temporary housing, high-quality psychological assistance, etc.
