The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the world community to consider the attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine as part of the Russian genocide of the Ukrainian people. He said this at a briefing for foreign media on October 26, 2022.

“Deliberate Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure are a war crime. Given their systematic nature and accompanying messages from Russian propaganda and officials, these attacks must be considered part of Russia’s genocide of the Ukrainian people. The Genocide Convention of 1994 clearly states that the deliberate imposition of conditions on a group with the aim of its physical destruction in whole or in part constitutes genocide,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy said.
Dmytro Kuleba noted that Russian terror worsened the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and damaged about 40% of the energy system. In addition, deliberate strikes on the energy system are also part of a wider war against Ukraine and Europe, as they forced Ukraine to temporarily stop exporting electricity to the EU in order to cover its own needs.
“Russian strikes do not weaken Ukrainian determination to defeat the Russian terrorist regime on the battlefield. The only way to stop Putin is to provide maximum support to Ukraine, including air defense systems and ammunition for them,” concluded Ukraine’s Foreign Minister.
