The G7 group condemned Russia’s abduction of personnel from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and called for the immediate return of full control over the station to Ukraine. This was noted in the joint statement in the Federal Foreign Office of the G7 on October 22, 2022.

The G7 condemns Russia’s repeated abductions of Ukrainian nuclear power plant management and personnel, as well as the use of various forms of pressure on the personnel remaining at the station. These actions further worsen the nuclear safety and protection of the ZNPP.
“We urge Russia to immediately return full control of the ZNPP to its rightful sovereign owner, Ukraine, to remove all Russian personnel from the facility, and to stop any attempts to recklessly and dangerously place the ZNPP under Russian administration, which could further jeopardize its safe and secure operations,” it was noted in the Federal Foreign Office.
In addition, the G7 also condemned Russia’s attempts to annex Ukrainian territories.
“We will never recognize the Russian Federation’s attempted illegal annexations of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions of Ukraine and strongly condemn Russia’s control of nuclear facilities within Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders. Any such annexation attempts are null and void, and have no legal effect. We reaffirm Ukraine’s full sovereignty over all its territory,” including this nuclear facility, concluded the Federal Foreign Office of the G7.
