The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, announced the progress in creating a protective zone around Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant on Twitter on October 14, 2022, after his visits to the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

“Arriving in Poland on the night train from Ukraine after an intensive week of consultations with Russia & Ukraine. Moving closer to the establishment of a protection zone for Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant—the plant’s situation is untenable and we need immediate action to protect it.”
The head of the IAEA also published pictures of the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba in the Kyiv bomb shelter on October 13.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized that Russia had to withdraw from the ZNPP in order to guarantee its nuclear safety, immediately stop kidnapping and intimidation of Ukrainian personnel.
Uaposition memo: ZNPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, has been seized by Russian military since March 4, 2022. Since then, Russian troops have placed military equipment and ammunition on the site of the station, as well as shelling the surrounding area.
