The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, announced on October 5, 2022, that he had gone to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv for negotiations on the situation at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.

“On our way to Kyiv for important meetings. The need for a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) around Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is now more urgent than ever,” Rafael Grossi wrote on Twitter.
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree about the annexation of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya NPP.
Ukrainian State Enterprise “National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” immediately reacted to this “decision”. “Energoatom” considers Putin’s decree and other “documents” issued in Russia regarding Zaporizhzhya NPP to be worthless, absurd and inadequate. Energoatom emphasized that the Zaporizhia NPP would continue to operate in Ukraine, in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, in the Ukrainian energy system and Energoatom.
It is expected that next week the Director General of the IAEA will also go to Moscow for negotiations regarding the ZNPP, where its “nationalization” was just recently announced.
