US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on September 27, 2022, that the United States was not opposed to Ukraine using Western weapons to return territories where the Russian Federation organized pseudo-referendums.

Antony Blinken was responding to a question from the media about whether the United States would agree to the use of American weapons by Ukrainian forces in the territories where Russia held pseudo-referendums, regardless of the result announced by the Kremlin.
“I’ve also been equally clear that Ukraine has the absolute right to defend itself throughout its territory, including to take back the territory that has been illegally seized in one way or another by Russia.”
US Secretary of State emphasized that pseudo-referendums did not change anything for the Ukrainian territories seized by Russia.
“Because there is no change at all in the territory that is being annexed by the Russians as a matter for us or for the Ukrainians, the Ukrainians will continue to do what they need to do to get back the land that has been taken from them. We will continue to support them in that effort.”
