During the meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is interested in the arrival of the IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and emphasized the need for complete demilitarization of the plant.
“We want the IAEA mission led by Director General Rafael Grossi to find an opportunity, thanks to our special services and security corridors, to get to the plant and do everything possible to avoid threats of a global scale,” the head of state said.
The President emphasized the need for “urgent demilitarization of the plant, the withdrawal of any Russian military with explosives, any weapons, the liberation of our plant, and the transfer of the nuclear plant under the control of Ukraine.”
“Today, the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is one of the most important security issues for Ukraine and the whole world. There are great risks regarding possible explosions at the plant, failure of nuclear reactors, disconnection of Zaporizhzhia NPP units from the Ukrainian network.”
As of August 31, it became known that the IAEA mission left the Ukrainian capital Kyiv for the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
