The Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania said before the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague on August 30, 2022, that Lithuania considers it necessary to discuss sending peacekeepers to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

“We have never been closer to a nuclear disaster than we are now. To be honest, just expressing regret about the situation may not be enough.”
The Minister notes that it is necessary to consider sending peacekeepers to the Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant.
“I think we need to go back to similar discussions that we had almost six months ago, that maybe even a military peacekeeping force to ensure nuclear security in and around the Zaporizhzhia NPP could be discussed and it is necessary”, added the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
Specialists of the International Atomic Energy Agency arrived in Kyiv on August 30. The mission consisting of 14 specialists led by the head of the IAEA, as planned will leave for the ZNPP today on August 31.
