The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on UNESCO on August 26, 2022, to respond to the threats of Russians to parents in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to send their children to orphanages if they do not enroll them in Russian-seized schools.

“Faced with resistance, Russia threatens parents in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions with sending children to orphanages if they do not sign them up to Russian-seized schools. Moscow is using education as a tool of oppression. We call on UNESCO to urgently react to this crime”, Oleg Nikolenko wrote on Twitter.
It was previously reported that Russians threaten to deprive the residents of occupied Mariupol (east of Ukraine) and Melitopol (Ukraine’s south) of their parental rights if they do not agree to send their children to occupation schools.
“Due to the reluctance of parents to send their children to schools under the occupation and efforts to include them in online education in Ukraine, the occupation authorities of Mariupol are resorting to direct threats of deprivation of parental rights and the removal of children from their families, ” said an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol.
