“On the evening of August 5, Russian terrorists attacked the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant for the second time with multiple launch rocket systems. Three rockets struck right on the site of the station, near one of the power units where the nuclear reactor is located.
The Russians seriously damaged the nitrogen-oxygen station and the combined auxiliary building. There are risks of hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substances. The fire danger is high. So far, there are no victims.”
Earlier, the press service also reported about the shelling of the high-voltage communication line at the NPP.
“On August 5, around 2:30 p.m., the Russian military shelled the Zaporizhzhia NPP three times. They aimed at the high-voltage communication line 330 kV VRP of the autotransformer of the Zaporizhzhia TPP — Zaporizhzhya TPP and damaged it. Emergency protection was activated at one of the power units, diesel generators were switched on. This unit is currently unloaded and disconnected from the power grid.”
It is reported that before the shelling, Rosatom representatives [a Russian state nuclear energy corporation that has been overseeing the ZNPP since it was captured by the Russian forces – ed.] left the station in a hurry because they probably knew that an attack was being prepared. The Ukrainian staff of the ZNPP is on site and performs all measures to ensure nuclear and radiation safety and eliminates the consequences of damage.
In addition, Russian troops shelled residential quarters from the direction of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
