“The UN has received more than 150 allegations of sexual violence committed against women, children and men since February 24. These are rapes under gunpoint in the presence of family members as a result of the attack on Ukraine by Russian forces,” said Patten.

She noted that sexual violence is one of the most devastating forms of violence that occur mainly against women and girls, as well as men and boys, during military conflicts.

“It leaves terrible scars on the lives of individuals and the entire society, it destroys families, and the consequences are felt for several generations,” Patten stated.

She stated that the problem cannot be allowed to continue to fester through silence and inaction. Therefore, it is important to allocate resources to help the families and victims of these crimes in order to restore the balance.
