The new package includes patrol boats, cannon shells, rocket systems and additional ammunition to help Ukraine defend its democracy in the face of unprovoked Russian aggression.

“The new assistance includes four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems; 36,000 rounds of 105mm ammunition; 18 tactical vehicles to tow 155mm artillery; 1,200 grenade launchers; 2,000 machine guns; and 18 coastal and riverine patrol boats.”

The US approved the first four rocket systems at the beginning of the month. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced on June 23 on Twitter that they had entered the country. Training for 60 Ukrainian soldiers on the systems concluded last week.

The new aid came as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which lasted for many months, reached a turning point in recent days.

President Joe Biden’s administration has provided $6.1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24.
