The European Union will immediately start preparations for Ukraine’s integration into European structures and eventual EU membership.

“In the shadow of war in Europe, the European Council adopted today a historic decision. It is granting EU candidate status to Ukraine. This is a crucial moment for us, the European Union, and also for Ukraine and peace and democracy on our shared continent because we share the European continent,” the foreign ministers said.
“Ukraine will win. Europe will win. Today marks the beginning of a long journey that we will travel together. The Ukrainian people belong to the European family. The future of Ukraine is with the EU. We are together for peace. We will immediately start preparations for Ukraine’s integration into European structures and eventual membership in the EU, “Borrell wrote on Twitter.
Borrell stressed that the Ukrainian people belong to the European family, and Ukraine’s future belongs to the EU.
Russia’s military aggression will not succeed in depriving people in Europe of the right to live a normal, decent life.
