She stressed that the number of reports of sexual violence is constantly growing.
“Since June, the UN High Commissioner’s Human Rights Monitoring Group has received reports of 124 cases of conflict-related sexual violence against women, girls, men and boys,” she said, noting that most reports (56) targeted women.
At the same time, Patten added, these figures are just the tip of the iceberg and do not reflect the scale of the sexual violence caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine.
I look forward to further consultations with the Russian Federation’s UN Office on possible forms of cooperation in this area, including facilitating access to areas not under the control of the Ukrainian government, “she said.
The UNSC was holding a briefing on cases of sexual violence and human trafficking in the context of Russian aggression toward Ukraine on June 6.
