Since the beginning of April, the Lithuanian gas transmission system has not imported gas from Russia. This is confirmed by the data of the operator Amber Grid. Now all of Lithuania’s gas needs are met through imports through the LNG terminal in Klaipeda. According to calculations, this should be enough in the future.
If necessary, gas can also be pumped from Latvia, and from May 1 – through an interconnector with Poland.
“We are the first EU country to receive gas from Gazprom, which has become independent of gas supplies from Russia.”
“As of this month, there will be no more Russian gas in Lithuania. Many years ago, my country made decisions that now allow us to cut off energy ties with the aggressor without pain. If we can, the rest of Europe can too,” said the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda.
Lithuania is among the countries that are the most active in promoting the oil and gas embargo against Russia in the European Union.
