President Barack Obama has phoned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and discussed escalating violence in eastern Ukraine.
White House officials said in Washington that during the call President Obama reiterated US support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
US President also urged his Russian counterpart to seize the opportunity of fresh talks at a summit in Belarus today.
