Germany’s Merkel to visit Ottawa
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Ottawa next Monday, with a broad range of issues on the agenda, including preparations for the upcoming G7 summit in Germany and the economic potential of the Canada-European Union Trade Agreement.
Security issues, including Ukraine and the fight against terrorism, will also be discussed, the Prime Minister’s Office says.
Merkel’s first bilateral visit was in August 2012, according to the PMO. Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s last visit to Berlin was in March of last year. Two-way trade with Germany totalled almost $19 billion in 2013 and Germany is Canada’s ninth-largest merchandise export …read more
