Merkel and Hollande met with Poroshenko in Kyiv

On Thursday, February 5, Angela Merkel and François Hollande came to Kyiv with a new peace plan to stop the conflict in East Ukraine. Earlier President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hold the meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

As a Ukrainian government source told Angela Merkel and François Hollande landed in the capital of Ukraine and went directly to the presidency to hold the trilateral meeting tete-a-tete. The European leaders discussed with Poroshenko how to end the conflict in Ukraine. On Friday the European leaders were going to travel to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. That was earlier announced by the President of France:

“We’ll go to Kyiv in the afternoon and we will put forward a new proposal to resolve the conflict and [ensure] the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We will discuss this issue with Poroshenko on Thursday and with the Russian president on Friday…” Hollande said.

Besides on Thursday, February 5, in Brussels EU diplomats have agreed to place more Russians and terrorists on black list including Ministry of Defense officials and MPs in reaction to Russia’s recent offensive in south-east Ukraine.
