This is Ukraine today – December 23: Ukrainian Parliament has voted for the rejection of non-aligned status of Ukraine

Maidan Community Sector, Lviv: Dear friends!

December 23 – 3 Ukrainian military were wounded in the ATO area in the last 24 hours, – said NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko.

December 23 – Ukrainian Parliament has voted for the rejection of non-aligned status of Ukraine. 303 MPs (constitutional majority) have voted in favor of this decision, proposed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. “Aggression of Russian Federation in Ukraine, illegal annexation of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, “hybrid” war, military intervention in eastern Ukraine, permanent military, political, economic and informational pressure by Russia demonstrate the need to find better guarantees of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, security and territorial integrity”, – is stated in an explanatory note to the law.

December 23 – After complying with NATO standards and with consent of its citizens, Ukraine will become a member of NATO and the European Union, stated Tomasz Syemonyak, Polish Minister of National Defence.

December 23 – Refusal from non-aligned status by Ukraine will have implications for resolution of crisis in Donbas, – stated Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin. Russia is obviously unable to implement its foreign policy without blackmail and threats.

December 23 – In Mariupol, on the night of December 23rd, a railway bridge was blown up – the bridge connected Illich Iron-and-Steel plant and “Azovstal” Iron-and-Steel plant (both are part of “Metinvest” Group) with the Port of Mariupol. On the same night, in Mariupol, an armed attack on three employees of “Azovstal”, who were standing guard at the railway haul near “Mukhynskyi” bridge, also took place. Terrorists planned to paralyze the operations of Mariupol metallurgy plants.

December 23 – at 01:40 at night, Russian terrorists blew up a steel bridge over the Kalchyk River near the station Sartan which leads to the city of Mariupol. Also according to operative data, it became known that the terrorists attempted to destroy two more steel bridges. The attempt was prevented by two guards of the factory Azovstal. As a result of the encounter, the guards were shot upon, one team member was killed and the other was wounded. During an examination of the location of the attack, more than 80 kgs. of TNT was found. Probably the attack of the fighters was directed at cutting off the city and the factories from security with the goal of destabilizing the situation and demoralizing peaceful residents.

Therefore, the Ukrainian Volunteer Unit, Azov, stated that it is taking under full control the city of Mariupol: “In view of the sharp escalation of the situation in the southern direction, the activization of fighting and the beginnings of terrorist-diversified activities, which counteracts the security of Mariupol, the unit Azov is taking full responsibility of the main objects of safequarding life in the city.” The unit is taking on the responsibility for completing a complex of tasks in warning about diversities and terrorist attacks.

P.S.: Please spread this appeal as much as possible.
