Yanukovych arrested in absentia

The Pechersky district court of Kyiv has delivered a judgment on taking former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych into custody.
This has been announced by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“January 19, 2015, upon the motion of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Pechersky district court of Kyiv ruled to apply the measure of restraint in the form of detention to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych,” reads the statement.
According to the press service, the choice of this measure allows investigators of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine to demand the extradition of Yanukovych from the Russian Federation.
