We expect final decision of Stockholm arbitration in case against Gazprom in early 2017 – Yatsenyuk

During his visit to Brussels on Monday, November 28, leader of the Popular Front Party, Ukraine`s former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic.

After the meeting, the leader of the Popular Front said that the issues were discussed in particular on energy security.

He recalled that the Ukrainian side had sued the Russian Gazprom: ”In the first quarter of next year, we expect the final decision of the Stockholm arbitration”.

Yatsenyuk stressed that the Nord Stream-2 pipeline project, which is opposed by Ukraine, is now blocked.

At the same time, he stressed that the decision of the European Commission to permit Gazprom to put additional capacity on OPAL pipeline ”does not correspond to the Third Energy Package and is contrary to the interests of both Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia, and the EU as a whole.”

”It is necessary to find a solution as soon as possible because Ukraine will be deprived of up to 20% of Russian gas transit through the territory of Ukraine, as well as Slovakia. And the Polish partners` income will be reduced accordingly,” said the leader of the Popular Front.

He also said that within two years, with the help of the European Commission a tripartite agreement between Ukraine, the European Union and the Russian Federation was signed on a winter package of gas supply: ”We hope this year we will manage to do it as well.”

A three-day visit of Arseniy Yatsenyuk to Brussels is a continuation of a series of international meetings of the leader of the Popular front.

Meetings with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, and high representatives of the European Commission are scheduled, as well as with President of the European People`s Party Joseph Daul.

At the invitation of the Atlantic Council, Yatsenyuk will address the international conference on the war in eastern Ukraine that will be held in the European Parliament building with the participation of representatives of political, diplomatic and expert community.
