Uzbek President Islam Karimov has been pronounced dead officially, he died on Friday, September 2, following a stroke that he suffered since last Saturday, according to an official statement by the Uzbek government and parliament.
The funeral ceremony will be held in Samarkand on September 3.
A state commission was formed to organize the event, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev was appointed head of the commission. The commission also includes Uzbek Senate Chairman Nig`matilla Yo`ldoshev, Legislative Assembly Chairman Nurdinjon Ismoilov, other government ministers, and public figures.
Uzbekistan will also observe a three-day period of mourning for the deceased president starting September 3.
Karimov`s death was confirmed by his daughter, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva.
”He has left us… I`m picking my words and cannot believe myself,” she wrote on Facebook.
