On August 30, 2022, it became known, that the administration of US President Joe Biden has been transferring weapons to Ukraine during the past few months, intended for the liberation of the southern regions of the country.

According to the official, Ukraine asked Washington for weapons specially designed for a planned counteroffensive in the south of the country.
“The US fulfilled many of those requests — including additional ammunition, artillery and Javelins — over the course of several presidential drawdown assistance packages provided to Ukraine over the last two months.”
These aid packages were well-known, but at the time it was unknown that they were designed in part to provide a counterattack in the south of Ukraine.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and top US general Mark Milley have been in regular communication with their Ukrainian counterparts to determine what specific weapons are needed depending on Ukraine’s objectives on the battlefield.
