Ukrainian officials must be taught to respect small businesses – EBRD

Ukraine is in a critical need of strengthening the role of small and medium-sized businesses, which requires proper communication on the part of government agencies, that`s according to Sevki Acuner, head of the Ukrainian office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Ukraine should launch a training program for public officials, designed to improve interaction between the state and small and medium-sized businesses, Acuner said at business forum in Kyiv.

The official has said he believes one of the most important initiatives of the Government and the other branches of power could be launching training programs for civil servants, which would teach them to respect the importance of SMBs for economic prosperity of the whole nation.

He recalled that in his home country, Turkey, the majority of top managers of SMBs have a sign over their working desk reading: ”A client is my blessing”. He added that all Ukrainian government institutions should have signs saying ”SMBs are our blessing”.

As UNIAN reported earlier, according to Minister of economic development and trade of Stepan Stepan Kubiv, creating favorable conditions for development of SMBs in Ukraine is one of the Government`s priority tasks in 2016.

At the same time, he has noted that at present the SMB segment is over-regulated, therefore the Ukrainian parliament needs to adopt a package of laws on deregulation, which includes 39 instruments.
