Ukrainian farmers gather 31 mln tonnes of grain by August 1

Ukrainian farmers had threshed 31 million tonnes of grain by August 1, 2016, from 8.1 million ha of land, which is 84% of the target, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry`s press service.

The average crop yield is 3.83 tonnes per hectare.

The yield of wheat was 21.5 million tonnes from 5.2 million ha of land (84% of the target), while that of barley was 8.5 million tonnes from 2.5 million ha (89%). Farmers also harvested 196,000 tonnes of rye from 75,000 ha (52%) and 112,000 tonnes of oats from 45,000 ha of land (15%).

Peas were harvested from 226,000 ha (95%) and the yield was 714,000 tonnes.

In addition, farmers threshed 1.1 million tonnes of winter rapeseeds from 403,000 ha of land (88%).

Odesa region alone harvested three million tonnes of grain, while Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia regions gathered over two million tonnes each.

The ministry projects that the gross yield of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine this year will reach 61 million tonnes.
