Ukrainian advances mean Russia’s flank is no longer protected in the south, – UK Intelligence

According to the report of the British Ministry of Defence as of October 13, 2022, it is likely that Russian troops expect the fighting to spread to the city of Kherson in the south of Ukraine, as they have ordered the evacuation of some of the city’s civilians.

Russian troops are likely trying to secure a new front line west of the village of Mylove, after retreating about 20 km north of Kherson in early October.

“Heavy fighting continues along this line, especially at the western end where Ukrainian advances mean Russia’s flank is no longer protected by the Inhulets River. Most of the Russian troops on this front line remain understrength VDV (airborne) units.”

Separately, a report of the British Ministry of Defence mentions the preparation for the battles for Kherson. The Russian administration issued an order to evacuate the civilian population from the city. This means that the Russian army is waiting for the arrival of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the regional center.
