Ukraine wants lower price for winter gas

Ukraine and the European Union have reached a position under which the price of Russian natural gas for Ukraine should be $378 per 1,000 cubic meters by the end of the year and $365 per 1,000 cubic meters from the beginning of the next year.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said this at a government meeting on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“Now we have reached a position where the price will be determined by the formula directly stipulated in the contract. This formula is influenced by the price of oil, which has fallen significantly. This means that in the last quarter of this year the price will be 378 [dollars per 1,000 cubic meters], while in the first quarter of next year the price will stand at 365 [dollars per 1,000 cubic meters],” Yatseniuk said.
He recalled that earlier, Ukraine and the European Union had proposed that Russia amend the current contract, which would envisage the gas price for Ukraine in the summer season at $325 per 1,000 cubic meters and in the winter season at $385 per 1,000 cubic meters, when prices for energy resources grow.
