Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian oil to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia

The Russian state company “Transneft” announced on August 9, 2022, that Ukraine has stopped the transfer of Russian oil through the “Druzhba” oil pipeline to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia since August 4, because Russia’s “Transneft” was unable to pay for transportation through the “Druzhba” pipeline due to sanctions.

Sources at “Naftogaz” of Ukraine also confirmed the information, saying that an official comment on this matter will be made soon.

“On August 4, the delivery of Russian oil via the territory of Ukraine was halted,” the oil pipeline operator said in a statement on Tuesday.

However, deliveries to Poland and Germany via Belarus were continuing “as usual”, “Transneft” added.

The Ukrainian state company “Ukrtransnafta” provides oil transportation services on the terms of the 100% prepayment, and “Transneft” was unable to make the next payment.

“Transneft” claims that it made the transit payment, but the funds were returned to the account, as the payments are handled by Russiaʼs Gazprombank, which was sanctioned under the EU seventh package.

Uaposition memo: “Druzhba” is the largest oil pipeline in the world, it was built to transport oil from Russia to the countries of Central and Western Europe. The route of the oil pipeline runs from Russia to Belarus, where it branches into two branches: the northern (Belarus, Poland and Germany) and the southern (the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary).
