Ukraine to spend UAH 1.4 bln on repairs to Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline

Ukraine`s Cabinet of Ministers has approved a project for the modernization of a 31-km-long section of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod main gas pipeline to the tune of UAH 1.4 billion, or US$ 54 million.

This is stipulated in a government resolution dated September 22, 2016.

The blueprints of the modernization were prepared by PJSC Engineering and Production Enterprise VNIPITRANSGAZ. The overhaul will last for 29.5 months.

In particular, UAH 1.097 billion will be spent on construction and assembly services, UAH 15.570 million will be allocated for equipment, and other costs will be UAH 291.875 million.

Memo. The Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod main gas pipeline links gas fields in the northern part of West Siberia in Russia with end users in Europe. It was built in 1983. The total length is 4,451 km, its capacity is 32 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The diameter of each of the three threads is 1,420 mm.

The length of the pipeline running via Ukraine`s territory is 1,160 km, its diameter is 1,420 mm, operating pressure is 7.5 atmospheres. The pipeline runs across ten regions of Ukraine: Sumy, Poltava, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Vinnytsya, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Zakarpattia.
