Ukraine may obtain travel-visa liberalization before midsummer – Presidential Administration

Deputy Head of the Ukrainian President`s Administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev says Ukrainians will get the right to travel to EU countries without visas before the middle of summer, according to Hromadske media outlet.

”We expect that in early April the European Parliament will put the final point with regard to the issue of visa liberalization and take an appropriate decision. Following that, `the ball will move to the field` of the member states of the European Union, that is, the Council of the EU, which is to make a decision within a fairly short period of time. I expect that by mid-June Ukraine will get a legal decision on a visa-free regime,” Hromadske quoted Yeliseyev as saying.

He also noted that there are no political obstacles for Ukraine to obtain a visa-free regime. Thus, now this issue should be resolved just technically and legally.

”President gave clear instructions to all our diplomatic institutions in the member states of the Schengen zone to do their utmost to prevent an unexpected emergence of even technical barriers to visa liberalization,” Yeliseyev said.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Hug Mingarelli made a similar forecast about the visa-free regime for Ukraine in his interview with UNIAN.

He noted that the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the European Union would come into force before the end of June.
