Ukraine inflation accelerates to 12.4%

Inflation in October 2016 accelerated from 7.9% recorded the previous month to 12.4% y-o-y, surpassing the target of the National Bank of Ukraine of 12% set for year-end, according to the official website of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Inflation (growth of consumer prices) in Ukraine in October 2016 compared to September accelerated to 2.8% from 1.8% recorded in September to August.

The State Statistics Service says that from the beginning of the year, in January-October, consumer prices rose by 9.4%.

According to the service, the price of eggs rose most in October, by 50.9%, compared with the previous month, while the price of hot water and central heating grew by 42.7%.

In annual terms, the prices for hot water and central heating rose the most, by 80.8%, electricity – by 60%.

The State Statistics Service notes that the data are presented without taking into account occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as part of the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine stood at 1.8% in September 2016 compared to August, while during the previous three consecutive months, consumer prices decreased in month-to-month terms.

In annual terms, the inflation rate in September 2016 against September 2015 slowed down from 8.4% recorded the previous month to 7.9%.

Since the beginning of the year, in January-September, consumer prices rose by 6.4%.
