The spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted on September 9, 2022, that the Ukrainian air defense system is unique, it does not exist anywhere in the world and it must be strengthened with modern weapons.

“We created an air defense system that is unique and does not exist anywhere else in the world. We use various tactics and fight using old Soviet methods. We have developed a warning system. Russian missiles can be countered by air defense systems, fighters, and MANPADS – personnel with portable anti-aircraft missile units are stationed throughout the country and are supposed to respond and intercept missiles. There are also visual observation points.”
According to the spokesman, modern weapons are needed for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. Although Ukraine will soon receive complexes from Western countries, it is not sufficient.
“What should we do? Our air defense system should be strengthened with modern, reliable means. These include, in particular IRIS-T and NASAMS anti-rockets complexes. Unfortunately, the amount we have been promised will not be sufficient. Although, this will be the initial step when the partners will hand over the heavy air defense system of the Western model to us.”
