Ukraine to boost agritrade with Azerbaijan

Ukraine intends to develop trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan in the agri-industrial complex and increase bilateral trade, Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Taras Kutoviy said during his meeting with the Azerbaijani delegation headed by Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev, according to the ministry`s press service.

”Ukraine is a powerful player in ensuring world food security. The country`s agri-industrial complex not only increases production but also boosts exports. I believe that there are all prerequisites for the growth of trade turnover between Ukraine and Azerbaijan,” the press service quoted Kutoviy as saying.

He also noted that the Ukrainian farmers` products were gaining popularity in foreign markets with each year, which evidences high quality and competitiveness of domestic goods.

In turn, the Azerbaijani side expressed interest in increasing trade with Ukraine both in quantitative terms and in expanding the range of goods supplies, in particular: sunflower oil, cereals, soybeans, maize, meat, and chocolate from Ukraine, whereas vegetables, hazelnuts, wine, and tea to Ukraine.

The Azerbaijani delegation has also expressed interest in investment projects in the Ukrainian agrarian sector.

Memo. In 2016, the volume of mutual trade between Ukraine and Azerbaijan stood at $320, while Azerbaijani investments in Ukrainian economy exceeded $209 million.
