Thousands of Ukrainian teachers picket Parliament, Cabinet over high tariffs,low wages

The Kyiv teachers held a rally outside the Verkhovna Rada against boosting tariffs for housing and communal services, calling for the deputies to raise teachers` salaries, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

According to the report, the initiative group of teachers and the scientists and educators` professional union in Kyiv held a meeting outside the Cabinet of Ministers with Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman.

The activists addressed the people`s deputies with the warning that today`s rally is only a ”first call”. If no measures are taken by the Ukrainian authorities, the protesters say an all-Ukrainian strike of education workers and students will erupt.

As reported earlier, today, some 3,000 Kyiv teachers protested outside the Cabinet against raising tariffs for housing and communal services and advocated for increasing teachers` salaries.
